So Wiggly!

This week hasn't seen anything spectacular, but I'll let you know what is going on anyway. Reed and I have decided to move to Denver, Colorado, at the end of October when our lease is up. Originally we had planned to stay here until next summer, but Reed's job isn't providing enough hours, and he can earn twice as much in Denver. His sister Amy lives in Denver and has been kind enough to start looking for jobs for Reed. We are going to stay in his parent's basement for a little while until he finds a job and we can save enough for a deposit and first month's rent. I am really hoping that we can find a place by the first of the year or shortly there after.

Moving is going to be difficult because we have made some really good friends here in Rexburg. Our best friends live right across from us and we see them every day. Most days we fix dinner together because neither of us like leftovers that much. Of course I am going to miss my family, but I already live away from them and I don't see them every day. I see Jordan and Bethany and Coralie every day, so leaving them will be difficult. We hope it will only be for a couple of years though while both husbands finish grad school and then we can find some cute houses next door to each other.

So now that we have decided to move, I am trying to sell a few of our things so we can collect some gas money to drive to Denver. We are moving our big stuff like our sofa, bed, and table, but some of the things we got for cheap when we were first married we are selling. I want to move the least amount of stuff possible. So our apartment is just going to be in shambles for the next month while I do things like sell the bookcase and scatter books all over, or sell the DVD rack and have a pile of DVDs on the couch. Such is the life of moving, right?

I thought someone might be buying our TV last week, so I unhooked everything and got it ready to be picked up. Well, she changed her mind, and I didn't feel like hooking the cable back up, but I have decided that that was a really good decision. Once I didn't have the TV available for background noise, I realized how much the TV was driving me crazy the last few weeks. I know that there is a lot of trash on TV, but it seems like even when we find a decent show to watch, the commercials are risque and inappropriate. So I think Reed and I have officially given up television again. We didn't have a TV for the first year we were married and it was absolutely wonderful. We read books and played games and talked to each other. But recently we have gotten addicted to TV again and last night we decided that it wasn't for us anymore. It shouldn't be too difficult, because when we find a new apartment we won't be able to afford cable anyway. We have a few shows that if we decided that we really want to still watch them, we can find them online (minus the sleazy commercials).

Well, on to the title of today's blog. Patrick has turned into a full-fledged wiggle worm. He is moving almost non-stop when he is awake. I have uploaded a couple of videos to demonstrate his wiggling abilities. Unfortunately, we don't have a video camera, just a regular digital camera that takes tiny videos, so I there isn't any sounds, which is sad because in one of videos he laughed really loud (it is more like a squeal). But you can still tell that he is super excited that he has arms and legs. The other new development with my baby boy is that he had mostly discovered his hands. Of course, he isn't very coordinated yet, but he has started hitting things on purpose and grabbing toys. I need to get him a little playmat with toys so laying on the floor is more fun.

Also, I think it is safe to say that Patrick is officially sleeping through the night now. About a week and a half ago, I woke up all of a sudden and it was 5:00 am. At first, I panicked. I had that same feeling you get when you think you have forgotten an important test or you slept through a job interview. I thought Patrick had cried during the night and I had just not heard him. So, like any good panicked mother, I went in his room to check on him. Of course he was just fine and sleeping, so I went back to bed. He woke up ten minutes later, but he had slept 7 hours in row! I was amazed and full of energy that day because it was the first good night's sleep I had had in like 4 months. Since then he has usually slept 6-8 hours each night. It has been heavenly. Because he is sleeping more at night, he is awake a little longer during the day, which means we have more time to play!

Happy Monday

Hopefully these pictures will make your Monday a happy one! As you can see, Patrick still has his happy moments even though his cough won't go away. I really hope using this nebulizer will help soon so we can have a happy baby all the time!

An update on my sick boy

We took Patrick back to the doctor this morning because it has been three weeks and his cough has not gone away yet. If it was a little cough, I wouldn't be worried, but it is a big, wet cough that still produces phlegm. The doctor said that yes, he was still wheezy and congested and he sent us to the hospital to get another chest x-ray and a CBC (blood test). (It was so sad to watch them try to draw blood from his teeny tiny arm! He was so good though and only cried for like 30 seconds before he fell asleep). He also prescribed us a nebulizer, so I have to use that every 4-6 hours to give him some more concentrated medicine. I haven't used it yet because I am waiting for Patrick to fall asleep before I try it, so I will see how he tolerates the nebulizer. Hopefully this will clear up his cough!

Thanks Grandma Haight for the adorable Sunday outfit.

Demolition Derby

Saturday night we went with some friends to the demolition derby in St. Anthony. For anyone who doesn't know what a demolition derby is, a bunch of rednecks get together at the fairgrounds to watch crazy people drive around in obnoxiously decorated cars and smash into each other. We go for two reasons: 1) to see how many mullets we can spot, and 2) to see if there will be any cool explosions. Unfortunately, there were no cool explosions this time, but it was still well worth it. This demo derby was for a good cause--they were raising money for the Fremont county Search and Rescue team (those are the guys in the red shirts).

Here are some pictures of the cars:

I don't know if you can see it, but these guys put a shopping cart on top of their car with a baby doll sitting in it.

And the destruction:

Patrick did a really good job. He was awake for almost two hours and didn't get fussy until the very end. This is the expression he had on his face pretty much the whole time.

2 Months Old

Patrick is two months old now, and I think we are adjusting to life with a baby quite well. This week I feel pretty frustrated due to a lack of sleep, but I am hoping that will work out on its own soon. The last few nights Patrick has been very restless. He will fall asleep easily, but as soon as I put him down he will wake up. He used to fall back asleep by himself, but lately he waits about 10 minutes (just long enough for me to fall asleep) and then he will start screaming. I get really frustrated with him at night because I am so tired, and then I feel bad in the morning. Patrick tries to make up for it with smiles for me in the morning though. I am just trying to take it one night at a time because I know it will take some time before he sleeps well again because the bronchitis threw off his groove.

I doubt tonight will be any better though, because today we had his 2-month doctor's appointment and he had three immunizations. I took pictures this morning before his appointment because I figured he wouldn't be very happy afterwards. Here are his stats: 10.9 lbs (32%) and 23 in (55%). He is still kinda skinny but definitely putting on weight. He actually did really well at the appointment. He let the doctor poke and prod, and he screamed pretty good when he got the shots, but only for a minute and then he settled right down. Of course, he had the saddest baby face ever, but he wasn't crying. He fell asleep on the way home, and he is still sleeping right now. We will see how fussy he is when he wakes up, but it can't be much worse than the last couple of days. He hasn't pooed for 3 or 4 days (I suspect the antibiotics) and that is making him pretty cranky.

Despite the fussiness, I still love my little boy and we are having a really fun time watching his personality come out. He smiles frequently now, especially in the morning, and once in a while he will laugh. I keep trying to capture a smile in a picture, but this is as close as I have gotten. He will give me a big gummy grin, and then as soon as I get the camera, the smiles disappear. What a goofball.

Sorry, these are blurry, but trying to catch a smile is like trying to catch a picture of Bigfoot.

A Bout with Bronchitis

I have been living with a couple of sickos for the last week. Patrick started getting congested on Thursday, and by Friday night (when the doctor's office closes) it had moved to his chest and he sounded horrible when he coughed. Saturday morning we took him to Community Care and they told us he had bronchitis. I felt really sorry for him because he isn't even two months old yet and he has a yucky grown-up illness. They gave him a cortizon shot to help him breath and an antibiotic. He slept all day Saturday, but by Sunday evening he was already starting to feel better. Unfortunately, Reed was starting to become congested. Luckily, Reed was able to get himself an antibiotic quickly, and he is starting to feel better too. We had a couple of rough nights because Patrick had a hard time breathing if he laid down, but Patrick is already pretty much back to his normal routine and sleeping from about 10:00 to 3:00 and then from 3:30 to 6:30 or 7:00, which makes me very happy.
