Another doctor's appointment

Patrick had his two week check-up on Monday, and he is just growing perfectly. He is now 8 lbs and 21.25 inches. He feels so much bigger now! He now tries to hold his head up all the time, and he stays awake a lot more this week.

This morning was great because Patrick only woke up once last night. He slept from 9:30 til 2:00, and then from 3:00 to 6:30. I love my baby! I'm not going to get my hopes up because it may not last, but hopeful we can get used to this schedule. He is a little cranky this morning, but overall we are doing really well staying home with each other.

Patrick's Blessing

Reed blessed Patrick in church on Sunday. Patrick was a very good boy. He even woke up in the middle and didn't even cry. Reed also did a great job, and he blessed Patrick with many great things. Afterwards we had a luncheon and had a nice time visiting with family and friends.

Here is a picture of Reed, Patrick, and Grandpa Haight. We finally have a boy to pass on the Haight name!

This is my 5 generation picture. At least, it will be 5 generation when we can take a picture with my mom there. My mom wasn't feeling well this weekend so she wasn't able to come to the blessing. Hopefully she will be able to come in a couple of weeks and we can get another picture. This is my great grandma Iris Crow, and my grandma Lola Crow. My great grandma is 96, so we are really lucky that she is still around for us to take a picture with.

He Did It!

Well, it is official. Andrew is a married man and off of our hands! On Tuesday, July 22, 2008, Andrew married Ann Marie Horton in the Salt Lake City temple. I didn't go because Patrick is so small and I figured that would be too long of a day. Reed says that it was a very nice day. They had a sealer who rambled on for about 45 minutes, and Reed says that the longer he talked the whiter Andrew got. But, he made it through and is happily married now.

Two Weeks Old!

Can you believe our little Patrick is two weeks old already? I can already tell he is getting bigger. He is beginning to stay await a little more each day, and when he is awake he enjoys looking at our faces. Here is a picture of him today. He is asleep, of course.

I was getting ready to give him a bath, and when I came to get him he was in this cute little pose. I don't know if you can tell, but his hands are clasped together and his lips are pursed. So cute!

Here are a few more pictures I took of Patrick this week in his cute little outfits. His tiny shoes were adorable! I love his little old man shorts that are preemie size but I still have to pull them up to his armpits.

Grandma and Grandpa Haight are here visiting for the week. We have really enjoyed having them here. They love Patrick and I think they are very excited to have another grandson. They have really been a big help cleaning our apartment and helping us get Andrew moved into his apartment. We are planning on blessing Patrick on Sunday while they are here.

On one last exciting note, I was surprised to find out that I fit into a pair of regular pants today! Granted, these were a little big before I got pregnant, and they are the only pair that fits, but it made me feel pretty good!

Doctor's appointment, etc

Well, our first week has gone really well. I feel WAY better than I thought I would at this point. I'm still a little sore, but I have much more energy than I had anticipated. Yesterday Patrick had his first doctor's appointment, and everything is perfect. His jaundice is going away and his color is good. He weighed in at 6 lb 15 oz, so he gained all of his weight back. He is eating really well, except that he is a little lazy. Sometimes he will eat for 45 minutes, fall asleep, and wait up 20 minutes later and want to eat again. So right now it sometimes feels like I am feeding him non-stop. Hopefully we can work this out in the next few weeks.

This morning I took Patrick to Madison Memorial Hospital for his circumcision. For some reason, we had thought that we could do it at the pediatrician's office, so we didn't do it while we were still in the hospital. Medicaid doesn't cover circumcision either, so we have to find $185! Hopefully the bill is slow like everything else in the hospital. :) Anyway, Patrick did a really good job. He was fussy when they took off his clothes, but he didn't make a sound while they were working on him. He did manage to pee and poop all over the nurse and doctor, which was pretty funny.

So our first week has gone well. Patrick still sleeps a lot, but he is still really good-natured when he is awake. He sleeps okay at night and usually only wakes up twice. Of course, when he does wake up, he wants to eat for an hour or more, so I'm not getting much sleep, but he's so cute that I can't hold it against him.

Here's the Scoop

As promised, here is a little more detail about our busy week. We went to the hospital Wednesday morning so I could be induced. We got there about 7:30 and we were in a room and hooked up to all sorts of things in no time. We were lucky to be there early because our nurse told us that they were unusually busy this week. Usually they average about 5 babies per day, but the last 4 days they had averaged 11! But even though they were so busy, we still had a great nurse who took very good care of us.

I had previously tested positive for strep so I had to have penicillin, and they got me hooked up to the putosin to induce labor around 9:30. Our nurse said that it usually takes at least 8 hours once active labor starts. Well, my experience was much quicker. My contractions started around 10:00 and they were 2 minutes apart from the beginning, and they got strong really fast. I thought that I was being a complete wuss when I started to want the epidural around 12:30 because I thought there was no way the contractions had been productive yet. Little did I know. When I came in to the hospital I was dilated to 2, and at 12:30 I was already a 6. I decided to get the epidural then because I was having a hard time catching my breath in between contractions. They came and did the epidural and it wasn't nearly as bad as I had imaged. The nurse was really good, and boy did that epidural hit the spot! It is really hard to understand something until you experience it, and I had never quite understood why everyone raves about epidurals until I had one, and now I will always rave too.

The epidural kicked in pretty quickly, because in the next 45 minutes I dilated all the way to 9. The nurse started to prepare the room for delivery, and Reed and I were a little bit in shock. We had only been in the hospital for 6 hours, and we weren't expecting a baby for several more hours. But Patrick decided he was coming now. I pushed for about 15 minutes, and Patrick arrived at 2:23 pm. He was very healthy and had great color. There were no problems with his blood sugar, which is what we were worried about with my diabetes. He did swallow a bunch of fluid on his way out, so he spit up and burped quite a bit for the first 12 hours and didn't want to eat anything. That had me worried for awhile, but then he started eating really well. He is still a really gassy little boy and I have to burp him BEFORE I feed him or he won't eat.

Grandma Carol came to visit that evening, and my mom and brother and sister came for a few minutes. Tyson and Sariah were very excited to meet him, and they kept saying how small he is.

We came home on Friday, and Patrick has been very good. He has just a little jaundice, so he sleeps constantly. I think I have only seen his eyes twice today! Our first night at home wasn't too bad either. Overall, he is a happy baby, and we hope he stays that way.

Our first family picture!

Patrick is Here!

Here are some long-anticipated pictures of little Patrick. Right now I will post a bunch of pictures and then later I will get on and give you some more details. But for now, here are the vitals. Patrick Don Haight was born Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 2:223 pm. He was 6 lbs 15 oz and 19 1/2 inches. He has some blonde hair that is short in the front but really long in the back. His eyes are dark blue right now, and he has super long fingers and long feet. We love having him home with us now!

The End is Near!

Well, the time has come. Tomorrow morning we leave bright and early for the hospital, and hopefully this time tomorrow we will have a little baby boy to enjoy. I'm feeling pretty nervous tonight, but I figure that I will just go with the flow tomorrow. Wish us luck!

Welcome One and All

Well, I have never posted anything on a blog before, but I have recently realized that this is a great way to stay in contact with family and friends. Or spy, whatever you want to call it. Because I am having our baby soon, I know that people will want pictures, and this is the easiest way to appease everyone. Yes dad, I mean you.
