Patrick Loves His Sister

Patrick just adores Lauren. He goes in to her room every morning and yells, "Mom, Sister is AWAKE!" He loves to read her stories, and he is always sharing toys with her, even though she can't play with them yet. The best example of his affection is when he lays next to her on the floor and tries to share blankie with her. He loves blankie, and it means a lot if hevwantsvto share with his sister. 

Lauren's blessing

Lauren was blessed on January 29, 2012, by her father. She was beautiful, but because we had had a long day, none of the pictures I took turned out very well! I was so excited to use her blessing dress. I sewed her dress in a sewing class at BYU-Idaho, and while I was super excited that Patrick was a boy, I was ready to have a little girl to put in this beautiful dress.

Lauren Angela Haight was born on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 5:35 pm. I knew she would be delivered via c-section because I had full placenta previa, which means the placenta was blocking the birth canal. Most women with placenta previa have to go on bed rest or have other complications, but I was really lucky to not have any complications.

Lauren weighed 6 lbs 11 oz and she was 18 1/2 inches long. I was surprised to see that she had some hair, and it was darker then Patrick's when he was born. She was a beautiful, sweet baby from the very beginning.   Right away she was eating well and sleeping fairly regularly. She loved to snuggle and sleep on my chest.

Grandma and Grandpa Haight brought Patrick to meet Lauren the day after she was born. We had talked to him a lot about his baby sister, so he was quite excited to meet her. Just as we thought, he was really excited for about five minutes, and then he just wanted to play with all the buttons on the hospital bed. As a big brother, he has been sweet, loving, and very much in love with his little sister. He loves to hold her and give her kisses.

Halloween cuteness

I didn't get too many pictures of Halloween, but I managed to get a few of Patrick in his costume, which is the important part, right? He was a crocodile/dinosaur, depending on what he wanted to call it. I had a cute idea for us to dress up like monkeys to go with his crocodile, but this pregnant lady ran out of energy that week, so Patrick was the only one who dressed up. He LOVED his tail. That was all he would talk about and wanted to show everyone his tail. I think Patrick would love to really have a tail on his body!

Patrick was definitely more interested in Halloween this year. We started talking about it at the beginning of the month when the decorations were up everywhere. We talked about it in preschool a couple of times, and he loved to point out the ghosts and bats and witches everywhere. He loved going to the pumpkin patch and picking out pumpkins too.

We went to the ward trunk-or-treat on Saturday and then on Monday he went trick-or-treating in Grandma and Grandpa Haight's neighborhood. He did really well this year, but both times he got distracted as soon as he got a sucker and he just wanted to stop and eat the sucker right then. When we went around the neighborhood he had to have a sucker in his hand the whole time. And he would say, "trick-or-treat" as we were walking around, but not when we got up to the door. He did know to hold up his bucket though. He ended up with just the right amount of candy for a three-year old to share with his mommy. :)

First Snow Day

Today was our first big snowfall of the season, and it really isn't uncommon for us to have snow in October. Even though we got a good 8 inches, it will warm up to 60 degrees by Friday and be gone in just a couple days. A big reason why I love Colorado!

We LOVED going out in our backyard to play in the snow. Patrick loved the snow 100x more than he did last year. This year he left his gloves on his hands so he didn't get cold after three minutes. Well, he might have, but he was having too much fun to be able to tell. He played for at least 45 minutes and it took me a while to get him to come in an warm up.

Here he is "pouncing" on the beginning of our snowman. We never finished our snowman, but we had fun anyway.

Pumpkin Carving

We carved our pumpkin today (also on the first snow day). Patrick was moderately more interested than he was last year. Daddy did most of the work though. We just did a simple jack-o-lantern face with shapes that Patick picked out.

But he did help Daddy for a few minutes.

And he was very pleased with the outcome.

He is so quick that I can never catch a really good smile, but here is a silly face.

Pumpkin Farm

We took Patrick to a pumpkin farm for the first time this year, and we had a really fun time. We also took Grandma and Papa and cousin Kellen. The pumpkin farm was a really nice place in Boulder that was *free* and had pumpkins, animals, corn maze, straw maze, tractors, and lots of toddler fun. We went on a beautiful 70 degree day.

Of course Patrick had to try and pick up all the pumpkins. He only broke one. They were "so heavy!"


There were goats, sheep, cows, chickens, rabbits, a donkey, and a miniature horse. The boys loved going from animal to animal and telling us all about them.

Patrick enjoyed the old tractor that were sitting around the farm. He called them train cars and he and Kellen even tried to move one.

Reed took the boys in the straw maze and I think they had a lot of fun running around and waving to mom. It was really cute watching all the little kiddos running around in circles.

We took a wagon out to the "pumpkin patch" and the boys hitched a ride out there.

Kellen was a little upset when we started putting pumpkins in the wagon and he realized that he couldn't ride in the wagon anymore!

We had fun picking out just the right pumpkin. Of course, Patrick thought they were all great, so it was hard convincing him that we couldn't take them all home. I had never been to a pumpkin patch before, so I had just as much fun picking out the perfect pumpkin!

Patrick and Kellen decided that they were going to pull the wagons out all by themselves, which was very entertaining. I was actually really impressed that they navigated out of the field and all the way to the entrance by themselves. It was super cute.

The pumpkin patch was a very fun outing, and I am looking forward to making it a yearly tradition. Patrick is understanding a lot more than last year and is getting pretty excited for Halloween. He loves the pumpkins and the Halloween decorations we have made.
